1 Academic Goal Setting This simple presentation can be used at the beginning of the year to set goals for the quarter. It can also be used with a current grade print out to monitor goals, and at the end of the quarter. This type of activity is also prescriptive for certain groups of students. This is a baseline template. Please add information as it pertains to your school site.

2 What are your goals? What do you want to accomplish this year?
What do you want to accomplish in 5 years? Take a minute and share your responses to each question with the person sitting next to you.

3 What are Goals? Goals are a desired outcome Examples:
Earning a 3.5 G.P.A. ( grade point average) Going to Hawaii Completing a mile in 9 minutes Goals can be divided into long-term goals and short-term goals: Short-term goals are ones that you want to achieve soon- - today or with in a week Example: Doing all your homework tonight. Think of a short term goal and write it down. Long-term goals are ones that you want to achieve that may take weeks, months, or years. Example: graduating from high school, earning a college degree, making honor roll each quarter. Think of a long term goal and write it down. .

4 Why Do We Make Goals? We set goals to help us move forward and give us a sense of direction. They help us be the best that we can be and make the impossible into the possible Setting goals help us achieve what we set out to do Think about your grades.

5 S.M.A.R.T Goals S.M.A.R.T. Goals are a way to break down the goal we would like to accomplish by listing all the steps required. S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym that describes those steps S –Specific M-Measureable A -Action R -Realistic T -Time

6 Let’s Apply it! Using your current grades and the goal- setting worksheet, we will create our own S.M.A.R.T goal and review as a class.
