1 The Ethics of Robotics

2 Are Robots a Threat? Why Use Robots?

3 Robots in the care of the sick and elderly in Hospitals

4 Good Morning! Nursing homes in Japan rely on a 300-pound bear faced robots to help get their patients get out of bed in the morning.

5 You’ve got a friend in me!
Being alone is not good for you. Robots can help keep the elderly socially, emotionally and mentally well. Robots can help improve movement in the elderly

6 Tug Tug the robot is able to find its way around a hospital
It can carry prescriptions, food , medical waste or dirty sheets.

7 Da Vinci The Da Vinci robot is in the University Hospital in Limerick.
It can perform small scale surgeries. It still requires a surgeon to operate it.

8 Asimo Asimo is able to communicate with the deaf

9 Dinsow The Dinsow elder care robot acts as a personal assistant .
It reminds you to take your pills and it tracks your health It automatically answers incoming calls from family and doctors.

10 Xenex It only takes the Xenex robot about 10 minutes to disinfect a patient’s room with a U.V light.

11 Robots in oil spills Aeros
AEROS is controlled remotely from an aircraft or satellite. AEROS can recover up to 90% of the oil spill.

12 Liquid Robotics This is a fleet of wave-riding robots used to
Predict tsunamis, Tracking fish Discover offshore oil leaks near drilling platforms. Powered only by the sun and the waves.

13 Protei Project This a fleet of robotic sailboats designed to clean the ocean of spilled oil.  It uses clean energy.

14 Driverless cars

15 Search and rescue missions

16 Did you Know? Rescue robots played a very important role in the September 11 attacks in New York. They were used to search for victims and survivors after the attacks. They were sent into the rubble to look for bodies.

17 Recon Scout Robot Capable of seeing in complete darkness.
It is thrown into a dark environment Immediately transmits clear real-time video footage.

18 Robots in space exploration

19 Robots in Space: Go further in space and discover more than a human could. Can explore different planets that could be dangerous to a human. Can capture remarkable data and visual footage that would never be humanly possible

20 Hubble Space Telescope:
This robot has discovered a new moon off Neptune.

21 Dawn Dawn was the first spacecraft to orbit a dwarf planet.
It has discovered the source of many of our meteorites, such as the giant asteroid Vesta.

22 Curiosity Curiosity analyses Martian rock samples.
Curiosity looks for anything that might help us learn more about the planet of the Martian landscape.

23 Robots In The Military

24 Reacher Robot Irish designed bomb disposal robot
The Reacher has a cargo-bay to store a smaller robot designed to get under a car to destroy pipe bombs.

25 C-Turtle Autonomous cardboard robot with turtle flippers
landmine-clearing robot cheap and easy to assemble

26 Drones Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)
Help the army carry out missions without risking human life.

27 Robots used in car production
Save time and money and are reliable Can install parts, paint and weld

28 Agbots Crop farming –planting seeds, pruning, spraying pesticide, picking fruit.

29 Autonomous tractors

30 Milking cows
