4
How does Accelerated Reader work?
Children take a STAR Reading Test four times a year - Reading comprehension and skills

How does Accelerated Reader work?
STAR test provides children with a reading level and a range of book levels called the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)
6
What next? Children visit library Choose a book in their range
Fiction and non- fiction books
7
Selecting books Use their own ZPD number range to choose their reading books (see Reading Journal) Use the book spine to select a book at the correct ZPD Colour code directs pupils to books
8
Key Stage 1 Not all children in KS1 will have a ZPD, they will get one when they reach a certain score on their STAR test. Teaching staff will be able to see when this happens and will inform children verbally and place a sticker in their reading journal.
