1 Year 6 Tests and Teacher Assessment 1st February 2018

2 Aims of the Meeting Help parents understand the difference between teacher assessment and the end of year 6 tests, and the role each has to play Give information about the arrangements for preparing children for the tests Give parents an insight into the content of the English and Maths papers, including the grammar test. Give parents an opportunity to view past papers Offer parents advice on how to support their children in the weeks leading up to the tests and the deadline for teacher assessment Explain the new standards and what to expect Explain additional support that children may have for the tests

3 Teacher Assessment and Testing
The snapshot and the video! Test week is the week commencing Monday 14th May. Testing on Monday to Thursday Teacher assessment is on going until almost the end of June. Teacher assessment of Reading, Writing, Maths and Science (last year) Tests for Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling, Reading and Maths

4 Test Preparation High quality teaching and learning
Opportunities to look at test papers and experience test conditions Opportunities to go through errors made on practice tests Revision guides for English and Maths Practice books for Grammar, Punctuation and mathematics Support groups for some children

5 Science This is only assessed through teacher assessment
Revision programme in school Revision guides and workbooks to be used at home and in school Revision groups in school during the summer term for selected pupils

6 Teacher Assessment This gives a more accurate picture of what children can do on a daily basis. Teachers gather evidence from a wide range of sources over time. Evidence has to be seen in independent work where skills are applied, after being taught, and measured against national standards. Evidence is moderated with other schools.

7 National Curriculum Tests
Tests for those working at the expected standard Teacher assessment for children working below the level of the tests The test results will only show if your child has met the expected standard or not.

8 Additional Support During the Tests

11 What information will you be given?
In Mathematics your child will attain at the expected standard or not In the Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation test your child will attain at the expected standard or not In the Reading test your child will attain at the expected standard or not In the teacher assessed writing your child will attain at the expected standard, at the greater depth standard or at one of a range of standards below the expected standard.

12 How Can You Help at Home? No pressure – Two children crumbled last year. Lots of encouragement to ‘do their best’ and ‘have a go’ without worrying. This is not a life changing event! Regular short spells of revision Sleep Good breakfast
