Assessment Activities
S1P1 Students will investigate light and sound. e. Identify emergency sounds and sounds that help us stay safe. Limited or Minimum Progress toward achievement of standard (1) Student is not able to identify emergency sounds and sounds that help us stay safe. Progressing toward achievement of standard (2) Student inconsistently identifies emergency sounds or sounds that help us stay safe. Consistently and independently achieves the standard (3) Student consistently and independently identifies emergency sounds and sounds that help us stay safe. Assessment Activities Use a listening center to have students hear a sound and draw a picture of what might be happening. Have students produce an accordion book with pictures of different emergency sounds and what is happening. Have students make a Tchart to compare enjoyable sounds and emergency sounds. In each section of the Tchart students should draw pictures of different types of sounds and label each picture. Instructional Notes: Harcourt Science materials provides assessments for each element. In addition, each school has a copy of Picture Perfect Science lessons. Students should know: certain sounds will tell us that there is an emergency. emergency sounds are loud (volume) and have a high pitch.
