2 Event Fundraising

3 Agenda Why do we use events to fundraise? Tips & tricks for success
Hearing from your peers Plan your own! What events have you seen be successful? (planning or attending them)

4 Why do we use events to fundraise?
Event Fundraising Why do we use events to fundraise? -engages broad set of interested folks -good entry point for people to learn about what we care about -of course, raises funds!

5 Secure the venue early Tips & Tricks
Often the hardest part of the planning process -use TI as a case study (booked 1 year in advance! That’s too much for most of you)

6 Stick to a budget Tips & Tricks
MAKE a budget. You cannot know what things are going to cost until you write it all out. Then stick to it. Get things donated wherever possible. Minimize, minimize, minimize! Little things add up.

7 Get sponsored Tips & Tricks
Things cost money, but you can get GIKs or get business to pay for the things you need (get stories)

8 Reach out! Invite! Confirm!
Tips & Tricks Reach out! Invite! Confirm! You can’t have an event without people. And outreach won’t happen by itself. Tell stories of recruiting for TI – takes a LOT of follow-up, reminders, s, phone calls, etc. – and that’s for people who already care about this work!!

9 Organize volunteers Tips & Tricks
Get people to help out (make a list of everything that will need to happen the day of!) and make sure they know what to do. But also, it’s better to have engaged participants that volunteers with nothing to do. Don’t be afraid to turn people away.

10 Keep the mission up front
Tips & Tricks Keep the mission up front Don’t forget that this is an event for PIH Engage, not just a fundraiser for anything. Remind people why you’re hosting this and why it’s important to attend and donate!

11 Relax and go with the flow
Tips & Tricks Relax and go with the flow Things will come up – make Plan Bs, and also don’t sweat it when they don’t work out. If you planned well, it’ll be great!

12 Ask for more. Say THANK YOU for all.
Tips & Tricks Ask for more. Say THANK YOU for all. Don’t be afraid to ask for more donations. Give example of JOIN graduation, Maddy asking for $500 and getting it in like 5 minutes.

13 Use Donor Thank-You Forms
Tips & Tricks Use Donor Thank-You Forms Find them online! This helps everything get the credit they deserve (and might expect). Also use the report form!
