Typical Practice Schedule
Typical Practice will be as follows: Dynamic Warm-up Technique Training for Events Strength Training Come to practice prepared! Have clothes for indoors and outdoors. It gets cold in Wisconsin in March and April…come with outdoor practice attire. We WILL practice outside if it is not raining or snowing. BE PREPARED! We will send you home if you are not adequately prepared
10
Shoes/Apparel You should get a good pair of running shoes. A good fit will help eliminate those dreaded shin splints Track Spikes are not required, but recommended. We do have some extra pairs if you would like to borrow them for the season. We are going to wear black undergarments for meets. It must be a solid black. See us if you have questions.
11
Practice Rules Practice begins at 4:00 pm everyday
If you have to be late for some reason, you need to let either Coach Bindl (girls) or Coach Schneider (boys) know beforehand Everyone needs to be dressed and ready at 4:00 pm for dynamic warm-up each day Practice will be at the elementary gym until we are ready to go outside. Make sure you allow time to get up there. Drive carefully if you want to drive. If you cannot handle this, you will be required to walk. We expect you to give 100% at each practice
12
Practice Rules (continued)
Unexcused absences are unacceptable We need to know if you are going to be gone! Consequences 1st unexcused absence - warning 2nd unexcused absence - suspension from the next meet 3rd unexcused absence - dismissal from team
13
Meet/Road Trip Rules You are representing Marshall High School and yourself when we are on the road. Treat yourself, others, and the visiting facilities with courtesy and respect. Boys and girls CANNOT sit next to each other in the same seat on the bus! We will have food/drink for the bus ride home. See the food schedule for the meets you will need to bring food for. (it will be coming soon)
14
Meet/Road Trips Only athletes participating in the meet will be traveling Injured athletes may go along, depending on the meet/situation Ineligible students will not get out of school early to meets If you are not participating, you will be required to do a workout designed by the coaches. You must be at practice the night before a meet in order to participate. Some situations may be allowed with just cause, as determined by the coaches.
15
Athletic Code 1st offense (Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drugs) 2nd offense
Required to sit 21 calendar days, no reduction anymore. Students will be required to complete SAP course in order to regain eligibility 2nd offense Full season suspension. Can be reduced to 1/2 the season (5 meets) upon completion of an alcohol and drug assessment 3rd offense Suspension from all co-curriculars for one calendar year
16
Classroom Rules Grades and classroom behavior will be monitored by PowerSchool during the season. We expect you to conduct yourself in a manner that positively reflects on not only yourself, but our track program. If classroom behavior is poor, we will have some consequences to remind you how to act while you are learning.
17
Physicals/Alternate Year Cards
If this is the first sport you have participated in this school year, you need to take care of this ASAP. You cannot participate in practice until all of your required paperwork is turned in. Check with Amy in the Athletic Office
18
Proper Conduct Verbal abuse of a coach, official, teammate, opposing player, or spectator will not be tolerated. No swearing No derogatory comments Penalties will vary based on severity It could range from some extra conditioning to a suspension/dimissal.
19
Proper Conduct (continued)
Remember there is a section in the athletic code deemed “Conduct Unbecoming an Athlete” If you do something that the administration thinks violated this you could be punished with a wide array of consequences, possibly a meet suspension. If it even enters your mind for one second “COULD THIS GET ME IN TROUBLE?” you probably should avoid it.
20
Parents We want parents to be actively involved with our program
Please accept coaches’ decisions We want parents to have as much class and respect that we expect out of our athletes We want you to feel comfortable in approaching us with questions or concerns. There is a time and place for this and IT IS NOT AFTER A MEET. Please wait until the next day. We want you to talk to us first before going to the administration with problems. Please do this as a courtesy, there is usually a good explanation. Please follow the Chain of Command
21
Chain of Command If you or your daughter/son have a concern, please follow the chain of command: Have your son/daughter talk to their event coach first If that does not work out, please call/ the head coach and we can talk. DO NOT approach us about a complaint after or during a meet. That is not an appropriate time to discuss things. If your concern still is not solved, please contact our Athletic Director (Matt Kleinheinz) to set up an appointment
22
