Remember the New Testament, the words spoken by the apostles vs. 17 Guidance from God’s Word enables the believer to distinguish false, from true Build yourself up on your most holy faith vs. 20 Keep yourselves in the love of God vs. 21

Keep Yourselves in God’s love
How? By building yourselves up on your faith By praying in the Holy Spirit vs. 20 By waiting anxiously for the mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life vs. 21 By keeping His commandments John 14 By abiding in His love John 15 By loving one another I John 3 & 4 By His Spirit abiding within us I John 4 By not fearing punishment I John 4

Our Responsibility to the Gospel
Contend for the faith vs. 3 Build yourself up in the faith vs. 20 IN the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith Rom. 1:17 Faith: believing what God says Being grounded in the Word KEEPS believers in His love John 14 By faith in Him, believers are sanctified Acts 26:18 Faith is a part of a Christian’s everyday life

Our Responsibility to the Gospel
Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers Matt. 9:37-38 Preachers of the gospel need to be sent so unbelievers can HEAR and be saved Rom. 10 Believers are to be witnesses Acts. 1:8 Believers are under obligation to share the gospel as Paul did, for IT is the power of God unto salvation, to everyone who believes Romans 1:14-16

Prayer Prayer is also to be a part of a Christian’s everyday life
Pray in the Spirit vs. 20 (the ungodly are devoid of the Spirit) The Father, Son and Spirit make their abode within believers! John 14:23 Prayer, initiated and led by God the Holy Spirit, is praying in the Spirit

Waiting anxiously What is the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life? Vs. 21 Eternity, Jesus’ Second Coming Mockers mock the promise of His return, saying everything has always been the same 2 Peter 3:3 When He comes, His mercy is completed But, the ungodly will now be judged

Have Mercy Mercy is multiplied to the called, beloved and kept in Jesus Christ vs. 2 Believers are to wait for the completion of that mercy when Jesus comes vs. 21 Believers are to SHOW mercy vs. 22 & 23 To some: Who are doubting vs. 22 (not the ungodly) Save others, snatching them out of the fire To some, have mercy with fear vs. 23

Mercy to Some, with fear Hating even the garment polluted by the flesh Jude 1:23 “Like the clothes of a leper, or someone who had had the plague, something contagious. Mercy, yes, but don’t partake in their sin. Take every precaution to preserve your own purity. There is need of as much care to avoid being defiled by them, as there would be to escape the plague if we had any transaction with one who had had it. Many have been corrupted by trying to reform the polluted.” Wm. Barclay

What God will do God IS able!!! Jude 1:24
Able to keep believers from stumbling Able to make them stand blameless with great joy in the presence of His glory There is no reason to fear falling, or fear the ungodly I Thess. 5:23-24 God sanctifies saints entirely, completely: spirit, soul and body Eph. 1:4, 5:27 God chose believers to be holy and blameless before Him Able to present us without spot or wrinkle

What God will do Acts 26:15-19 GOD opens blind eyes
God, through the gospel, turns those who believe in Him, from darkness to light From Satan, to God From enemies, to heirs: inheritance of a place prepared for them. Forgiveness of sins Results of the gospel are HIS I Cor. 3:7-8 He enriches all believers and confirms us to the end – kept for Jesus Christ

Therefore …. To the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen
