A brief or simple outline presents the thesis statement of a text and the major supporting points.
A Brief Outline In Kari Gardner’s essay about the marshmallow experiments (in Chapter 7), she includes this thesis statement: “People who can put off immediate gratification are more likely to have what it takes to be successful in the important things in life.”

A brief outline will present Gardner’s thesis statement and major supporting points:
Thesis statement: “People who can put off immediate gratification are more likely to have what it takes to be successful in the important things in life.” Major supporting point 1: The Marshmallow Experiment shows that delayed gratification skills lead to more success in life.
