2. French and Indian War Explanation Result Reaction
Great Britain had a large war debt
British imposed taxes on the colonists to pay war debt

3. Proclamation of 1763 Explanation Result Reaction
Britain did not want to pay to fight Native Americans in West, so they made a law saying colonists could not settle West of the Appalachian Mountains
Colonists angered at British military presence and control over not being able to go West to land they fought for

4. Sugar Act Explanation Result Reaction
British first imposed tax on sugar and molasses
Mild protest by colonists; not a big issue for most since sugar was a luxury

5. Stamp Act Explanation Result Reaction
Colonists required to pay tax and get all paper stamped, including legal documents and certificates, newspapers and even playing cards
Stamp Act Congress is formed to organize paper boycotts; Britain would eventually repel (cancel) the tax

British customs officers could search ships at will without a warrant
Colonists felt it was an invasion of privacy and ship owners bribed British customs officers
