12
Dehumanization To deprive someone from their natural rights, such as individuality, compassion, and/or civility
13
Methods of Dehumanization
Referred to people as numbers/tattoos/register them Stripped and shaved Separated men, women and children, elderly sent away Children were ripped from mothers' arms. Whole families were split and most never saw loved ones again Took all personal items such as shoes, watches, jewelry Work or die/food in camps Propaganda was used to say Jews and other inferior "races" should be eliminated
14
Methods of Dehumanization
Put the Star of David on clothes to segregate them from other people and them punished if they didn’t Surrounded by death, disease, and unhygienic conditions Forced to dig their own graves An estimated 1.5 million children were killed in concentration camps including, Jews, Gypsy children, and Germans with disabilities
15
Reasons for Dehumanization
Germans thought they were superior Thought their morals needed considerations Wanted to completely eliminate them Nazis wanted to break them Made them social outcasts and look bad so they had an excuse to kill innocent people
