Introduce yourself to class and ask them your role within the school as Careers Adviser? Hand out a Lucky Dip Job Card from the envelope to every pupil in the class, and ask them if they are happy? Explain that CAs do not tell you what career to do, but help you to decide what career you want to do and how to access it. Brief introduction to SDS

Activity! Your future is your choice... The next 5 slides will show you a photo of a person with some statements, and we want you to guess (shout out or write it down on paper) what job they do. After discussion reveal next slide of same person in a workplace. Skills Development Scotland

10 How can you choose a good career?
Introduce the themes… SELF is about understanding who you are and what you can do knowing what is right for you reviewing your life, work and learning plan. STRENGTHS is about understanding all about your skills, knowledge and experience knowing more about what you can do reviewing which of your skills are transferrable. HORIZONS is about understanding the world of work understanding what options might be available to you knowing which options you should choose knowing what you need to do to make your choice reviewing your links between life, learning and work reviewing where you fit into the world of work. NETWORKS is about understanding who can help you knowing how to make connections with those who can help you reviewing your networks.

Start using to research the careers that are available to you.

Get them to make a list of job titles of people involved in making this product and getting it to your breakfast table – e.g. farmer, agricultural scientist; food scientist; graphic designer; advertising executive; factory worker; lorry driver; retail assistant; buyer; shelf filler; crop sprayer; motor mechanic; nutritionist; botanist; chemical engineer; How many jobs can you think up involved with this product?

13 Over to you – think BIG! Now arrange the jobs into

Your future is your choice.... There are lots of jobs available to you... Reminder of what we have done today: CAs don’t tell you what job to do and it is never too early to start researching careers. All jobs are available to all people, regardless of gender. With over 700 job titles to choose from, it is important that you don’t just choose the ones you know about (usually family and friends). All jobs are important Different jobs need different skills
