DNA Database The FBI has compiled a national database of DNA profiles.
This is called CODIS (Combined DNA Index System)

If investigators have DNA evidence but no suspects, then they can compare crime scene DNA to profiles stored in a database. Ex. Johnia Berry bill

Mitochondrial DNA It is maternally inherited. It is taken from the mitochondria of bones and teeth. You can compare a mother to a missing person. Ex. –soldiers
