17 Artist Statement As I continue on with my life journey, different experiences will inspire me to express myself in art more and more. Since I was a child I always gravitated towards art. It is wonderful that anyone can express themselves through color, rhythm, and pattern without using actual communication. Of all my years of schooling, I have connected with art more than any other subject. I want to go to an art school where I can learn everything there is to learn about this wonderful expression. I thought I was going into interior design most of my life, but I am truly considering illustration. I love having emotion and a certain story in my pieces, it gives the piece true meaning. This moment currently I have been waiting all my life, to have a finished art portfolio of my whole schooling and to send it away to art schools. At the start of my portfolio, the beginning pieces express the way I felt about life at the moment; being appreciative. The beauty of the human body or in nature is not something one might often stop and take a look at. The second stage flows into expressing lack of appreciation towards me from my friends. This led to myself being very lonely and feeling as if I didn’t belong anywhere. I started experimenting in mediums and got involved in The National Art Honor Society which truly inspired me to try different things for my pieces. With this in mind, the third stage expresses the stress of keeping up with my busy schedule and friends taking over my life. Finally, my last piece is called Breakaway, describing I’m breaking free from all the stress and the past, that this is who I am and this is all I have to offer. All day, everyday, I want to do art. I truly can tell I have grown as an artist since the beginning of my high school career, which I believe is the best thing an artist can possibly achieve. Art is my past, present, and future. Art is a way of living, and I’m ready to live through art.
