In the 1530s, France began to send explorers to find new lands.
The area around what is now called the St. Lawrence was among the new lands explored for France.
France decided to set up colonies there and people from France would live there permanently

7. The Newcomers What is it like being a newcomer to Canada?
What would have it been like for the First Nations Peoples to see big ships sailing up their waterways? And to be introduced to people who looked different and spoke a different language?
