Using the front crossover mirrors you should be able to see:
All the way across the front bumper of the school bus plus not less than 2 feet on either side from the ground to the point where direct observation is possible and not less than 12 feet in front of the school bus. Student Page 14 Oakland 4

Using the left convex mirror you should be able to see:
Driver-side Mirror Using the left convex mirror you should be able to see: The left rear tires making contact with the ground Along the side to the rear of the school bus to reduce the left side blind spot Flat Mirror Convex Mirror Student Page 14

Using the side flat mirrors (west coast) you should be able to see:
The side of the bus in the edge of the mirror - but not enough to enable you to count the windows Parallel to sides of the bus at least on traffic lane The ground within approximately 6 inches of the rear dual wheel Approximately four (4) bus lengths behind the bus 4 3 Student Page 14

Using the right convex mirror you should be able to see: The right rear tires making contact with the ground The entrance door area Along the side of the rear of the school bus Student Page 14

Remember Your side flat mirrors (west coast) when adjusted and properly used will give you a wider viewing area But, they also create blind spots that can hide a vehicle as large as a semi-truck. When approaching an intersection: Be cautious, and Lean towards the steering wheel to peer around the mirrors to see if traffic has cleared.

INSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR
Should be adjusted to see the students inside the bus and any traffic directly behind the bus. USE: TO MONITOR PASSENGER ACTIVITY INSIDE THE BUS. MAY PROVIDE LIMITED VISIBILITY DIRECTLY IN BACK OF THE BUS IF THE BUS IS EQUIPPED WITH A GLASS-BOTTOMED REAR EMERGENCY DOOR.TO AID IN BACKING. TO SEE AT LEAST 200’ TO REAR. If you cannot adjust the mirrors to your satisfaction, you may need to ask your supervisor and/or mechanic for bracket adjustment. Student Page 14
