1 How can I represent all possible solutions to a situation that is limited in different ways by various resources or constraints?

2 M1 5.1 Pet Sitters Objectives: Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of equations and/or inequalities, and interpret solutions as viable or non-viable options in a modeling context.

5 Distribute Handout 1. Students should complete #1-7 in seat pairs. Discuss Distribute WB Read after bullets individually and make recommendations – no partners Discuss using next slide

6 Discuss Watch for students who focus on the following ideas:
*Students who calculate the intercepts of the constraints *Students who make note of an “exchange rate” between cats and dogs in terms of either of the constraints. *Students who create charts to keep track of the combinations of dogs and cats they have tried *Students who plot combinations on a coordinate grid to keep track of the combinations they have tested. *Students who try to write equations or inequalities to represent the constraints.

Explain how you represented the two constraints given in this problem situation and what your representation revealed.
