5 Key Terms Decimal – A number that has a digit in the tenths place, hundredths place, and beyond. Place Value – The value given to a digit by its position in a number. Value – The numerical worth or amount of a digit.

6 This place value chart can be used to model changing the digits throughout this powerpoint.
Be sure to print off the decimal place value chart for students to use throughout this lesson. (The place value decimal chart is located on OneDrive under First Nine Weeks, Chapter 1).

7 Mini-Lesson In the number below, the frog with digit 7 will leap 2 places to the left. Seven will take 5’s place, so 5 and 4 will move one place to the right. Teacher introduces slide with: Leap Frog is a game children have played for many years. In this game, one child jumps over another child to change places. Frogs can play leap frog too! In this lesson the frogs have numbers. Teacher should use a place value to model the digits changing places. Students How did “7” change when he moved? Did he increase or decrease in value? By how much? ANSWER: He increased 100 times. He was worth .07, but now is worth 7. The new number is
