Notes 7-2 The Coordinate Plane
2
Coordinate Plane: Two number lines drawn perpendicular to one another, crossing at 0.
3
x – axis the horizontal line on the coordinate plane y - axis the vertical line on the coordinate plane
4
Has the coordinate of (0, 0)
Origin - The point on the coordinate plane where the lines cross Has the coordinate of (0, 0)
5
Quadrants: Each section of the coordinate plane
The quadrants go in counter-clockwise order.
6
(x, y) Ordered Pair – Also known as a coordinate.
The x value tells how far to go sideways. The y value tells how far to go up and down.
7
How to graph a point: Step 1: find the x coordinate and move left or right on the x axis that many spaces (DO NOT COUNT ZERO) Step 2: find the y coordinate and move up or down on the y axis that many spaces (DO NOT COUNT ZERO)
8
Graph the coordinates of each of the following points
Graph the coordinates of each of the following points. A(3, 2), B(-1, 3), C(-4, -1), D(6, -4)
9
Graph the coordinates of each of the following points
Graph the coordinates of each of the following points. E(-3, -6), F(1, -5), G(4, -4), H(0, -4)
10
Graph the coordinates of each of the following points
Graph the coordinates of each of the following points. I(0, -6), J(1, 0), K(4, 2), L(-3, 0)
11
Name two points that have the same x coordinate.
12
Name two points that have the same x coordinate.
13
Name two coordinates that have the same y coordinate.
14
Name two coordinates that have the same y coordinate.
