1
Scientific Revolution
2
Until well into the 1500’s people saw little difference between science and magic.
Most people still believed that the position of the stars influenced human life.
3
The renaissance encouraged curiosity, investigation and knowledge
4
Scientific revolution (1500-1700)
People began using experiments and mathematics to understand the natural world.
5
This new approach Answered many questions in physics, astronomy and anatomy
6
3 new tools were used Scientific instruments Mathematics Experiments
7
Scientific method was introduced
Experiments were repeated to make sure they got the same results. Scientists made conclusions based on what they observed.
8
Ptolemy’s ancient geocentric theory
9
Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543)
Polish Scientist Founder of Modern Astronomy Heliocentric theory or “sun centered” theory
10
Johannes kepler (1571-1630) German Astronomer, Mathematician
Used mathematics to prove that the heliocentric theory was correct. Created laws of planetary motion.
11
Galileo galilei (1564-1642) One of the first to use a telescope
Published his observations; said geocentric theory was incorrect. Church leaders thought his findings contradicted the Bible. Forced to denounce his discoveries, placed on house arrest.
12
Sir Isaac newton (1642-1727) Proposed the law of universal gravitation
Proved that Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo had been correct. Laws of motion, still relevant today
