IV Pilgrims In England, they were group of religious dissenters
Many followed teachings of Robert Browne Shared Calvinist beliefs: rejected idols believed in predestination

Calvinist Values hard work thrift simple pleasures

Separatists Believed they should separate from the Church of England (not just “purify” if) Were persecuted for their beliefs Believed that the Church of England had become corrupt, only the Pilgrims believed it was beyond redemption. They therefore chose the path of Separatism

Fled to Holland Many tried to flee to Holland to escape persecution
It was illegal to leave without government permission. Many didn’t make the boat

Life in Holland children began adopting Dutch culture
