1 Technical translation
Technical translation is a type of specialized translation involving the translation of documents produced by technical writers (owner's manuals, user guides, etc.), or more specifically, texts which relate to technological subject areas or texts which deal with the practical application of scientific and technological information. The presence of specialized terminology is a feature of technical texts Technical translation covers the translation of many kinds of specialized texts and requires a high level of subject knowledge and mastery of the relevant terminology and writing conventions. 3 The Use of CAT Consistent terminology is important in technical translation highly formulaic repetitive nature of technical writing (Those things make computer-assisted translation using translation memories and terminology databases especially appropriate) Technical and Scientific Translation - Ms.Sara AlDirai

Technical Translator The role of the technical translator is to not only be a transmitter of information, but also to be a constructor of procedural discourse and knowledge through meaning, particularly because often, the technical translator may also take on the role of the technical writer. Research has demonstrated that technical communicators do, in fact, create new meaning as opposed to simply repackaging old information. This emphasizes the important role that technical translators play in making meaning, whether they are doing technical translation in one language or in multiple languages. Technical translation requires a solid knowledge base of technological skills, particularly if the translator chooses to utilize computer-assisted translation (CAT) or machine translation (MT). Though some technical translators complete all translation without the use of CAT or MT. Technical and Scientific Translation - Ms.Sara AlDirai

6 Techniques of Technical Translation
you should understand the source text - this requires some technical knowledge. With knowledge, you will be able to decide which word or term you should use. For instance, a single English word can have as many as 30 German counterparts - and vice versa. This ratio may be similar for any other language pair. You should also know the specific writing style used for technical texts in the target language. This issue is also of importance - e.g. a patent description should be written according to specific requirements of the Patent office involved. 3. know the subject area 4. Style doesn’t matter in technical translation: If we look at style from a literary point of view, then it does not have any place in technical translation. But if we regard style as the way we write things, the words we choose and the way we construct sentences, then style is equally, if not more, important in technical translation than in other areas Technical and Scientific Translation - Ms.Sara AlDirai
