4 A friend asks, How can I know if I have been forgiven of a particular sin? How would you respond?

5 A friend asks, How can I know if I have been forgiven of a particular sin? How would you respond?
“When you have fully repented, you feel an inner peace. You know somehow you are forgiven because the burden you have carried for so long, all of a sudden isn’t there anymore. It is gone and you know it is gone” (Elder F. Burton Howard, “Repentance,” Ensign, May 1983, 59).

6 Mosiah 4-5 Read Mosiah 5:2 looking for phrases that indicate forgiveness has come.

7 Mosiah 4-5 Elder Neil L. Andersen: “As we honestly confess our sins, restore what we can to the offended, and forsake our sins by keeping the commandments, we are in the process of receiving forgiveness. With time, we will feel the anguish of our sorrow subside, taking ‘away the guilt from our hearts’ (Alma 24:10) and bringing ‘peace of conscience’ (Mosiah 4:3). “For those who are truly repentant but seem unable to feel relief: continue keeping the commandments. I promise you, relief will come in the timetable of the Lord. Healing also requires time” (“Repent … That I May Heal You,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2009, 42).

8 Mosiah 4-5 President Harold B. Lee: “If the time comes when you have done all that you can to repent of your sins, whoever you are, wherever you are, and have made amends and restitution to the best of your ability; if it be something that will affect your standing in the Church and you have gone to the proper authorities, then you will want that confirming answer as to whether or not the Lord has accepted of you. In your soul-searching, if you seek for and you find that peace of conscience, by that token you may know that the Lord has accepted of your repentance” (“Stand Ye in Holy Places,” Ensign, July 1973, 122).

12 2 Corinthians 5:9 2 Corinthians “Judgment seat.” Greek word: bema.
Bema A raised platform where a Roman magistrate or ruler sat to make decisions and give awards following athletic competitions. This word was taken from Isthmian games where the contestants would compete for the prize under the careful scrutiny of judges who would make sure that every rule of the contest was obeyed. The victor of a given event who participated according to the rules was led by the judge to the platform called the Bema. There the laurel wreath was placed on his head as a symbol of victory .

13 2 Corinthians 5:9 2 Corinthians When is the Time of the Bema?
Where will the Bema take place? Who will participate in the Bema? Who will be the judge at the Bema? What is the purpose of the Bema?

Define Stewardship Using God-given resources to accomplish God-given objectives. “If God were here, what would he do?” What does God own? Which of His resources has he given you?  It’s all his! Mosiah 4-5 How many sins have we really committed? Let’s do the math… Read Mosiah 4:29

20 Mosiah 4-5 Mosiah 4:30 Who can testify of the blessing of watching thoughts? Words? President Ezra Taft Benson: “Think clean thoughts. Those who think clean thoughts do not do dirty deeds. You are not only responsible before God for your acts but also for controlling your thoughts. So live that you would not blush with shame if your thoughts and acts could be flashed on a screen in your church. The old adage is still true that you sow thoughts and you reap acts, you sow acts and you reap habits, you sow habits and you reap a character, and your character determines your eternal destiny. ‘As a man thinketh, so is he’” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1964, 60; quoting Proverbs 23:7).

21 Mosiah 4-5 President Boyd K. Packer: “As you learn to control your thoughts, you can overcome habits, even degrading personal habits. You can gain courage, conquer fear, and have a happy life. I had been told … as I grew up that thoughts must be controlled, but no one told me how. I’ve thought about this over the years and have decided that the mind is like a stage. During every waking moment the curtain is up. There is always some act being performed on that stage. It may be a comedy, a tragedy, interesting or dull, good or bad; but always there is some act playing on the stage of your mind. (“Worthy Music, Worthy Thoughts,” New Era, Apr. 2008, 7–8, 11).

22 How do you personally keep your thoughts clean?

24 Would it change the way you feel? Would it change the way you act?
Mosiah 4-5 Have you ever wanted to have your name changed? Have you ever wanted a nickname? Would it change the way you feel? Would it change the way you act? Mosiah 5:1-3, 9-12, 15 Story: muhammad-one-mans-journey-from-muslim- to-mormon In what ways do you think people change when they choose to follow Jesus Christ? ___________________

25 Elder David A. Bednar: “The word ‘steadfast’ is used to suggest fixed in position, solid and firm, unshaken and resolute. The word ‘immovable’ signifies the quality of being unyielding and incapable of being diverted from one’s purpose. “Thus, a person who is steadfast and immovable is solid, firm, resolute, firmly secured, and incapable of being diverted from a primary purpose or mission” (“Steadfast and Immovable, Always Abounding in Good Works,” New Era, Jan. 2008, 2).

26 Elder David A. Bednar: “The standard is clear
Elder David A. Bednar: “The standard is clear. If something we think, see, hear, or do distances us from the Holy Ghost, then we should stop thinking, seeing, hearing, or doing that thing. If that which is intended to entertain, for example, alienates us from the Holy Spirit, then certainly that type of entertainment is not for us. Because the Spirit cannot abide that which is vulgar, crude, or immodest, then clearly such things are not for us. Because we estrange the Spirit of the Lord when we engage in activities we know we should shun, then such things definitely are not for us” (“That We May Always Have His Spirit to Be with Us,” Ensign orLiahona, May 2006, 30).
