5 The Significance to Jews
Kingdom of Priests and Holy Nation. Ex. 19:6 God set apart the Levites to serve Him. The rest of Israel: VOLUNTARY. Num. 6:2 For ALL men and women. Num. 6:9 – “All the days of his separation he is holy to the Lord.”

6 Exodus 19:5-6 1 Peter 2:9 “‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.” “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”

7 New Testament Significance 1 Peter 2:9-12
Abstain from fleshly lusts. Gal. 5:24 Proclaim the excellencies of Christ (who called us out of darkness to light). Not to be defiled by “the dead”. Cp. Matt. 8:18-22 In other words: Our devotion is completely given over to God.

8 Final Thoughts New Testament examples of vows (oaths).
Paul made a (seemingly) Nazarite vow. Acts 18:18 Paul paid the expense for others under a vow. Acts 21:23 There is no teaching, however to perform vows. Matt. 5:33-34; Jas. 5:12
