7.5 Exponential and Logarithmic Equations
Solve problems using exponential functions requiring the use of logarithms for their solutions.
2
Objectives Solve exponential and logarithmic equations.
Solve problems involving exponential and logarithmic equations.
3
Exponential Equations
An exponential equation is an equation containing one or more expressions that have a variable as an exponent. To solve exponential equations: Try writing them so that the bases are all the same Take the logarithm of both sides. If then, x = y (b cannot equal 0 or 1). If a = b , then log a = log b (a>0, b>0)

Logarithmic Equations
A logarithmic equation is an equation with a logarithmic expression that contains a variable. If then x = y. * Watch out for solutions that are false!! You have to check your answer(s) to make sure they are solutions to original equation.
