Active in 85 counties and 2 cities.

3. CLCP MISSION
The mission of the Certified Literate Community Program is to mobilize every resource available to a community into a literacy campaign that functions within state certification guidelines and will result in a literate community.

4. CLCP GOALS
Secure the commitment of all leading public & private organizations to the literacy campaign.
Create & sustain public demand for a literate community.
Achieve new enrollment annually & retain existing enrollment to the extent necessary to achieve the designation Certified Literate Community.
Assess & document progress & recognize publicly the incremental economic, social & cultural benefits of literacy skills improvements achieved w/in the community.
Develop a program capable of being sustained for the community to achieve and exhibit its ability to maintain the designation Certified Literate Community.

8. How Does a Community Become a CLCP ?
Two levels of certification
Applications are submitted for each level of certification
Site evaluation visits are conducted
State Board of TCSG certifies
Annual Reports are required

9. When a Community Becomes a CLCP
Recruitment, retention and graduation rates increase
Resources increase – CLCPs annually secure over $2.5 million for their communities plus another $1.9 million in in-kind resources
Community has a sense of mission and direction and becomes a self-managed force for literacy

Awarded 2,023 GED® Testing scholarships; raised $125,486 for the scholarships
Awarded 38 post-secondary scholarships; raised $14,106
1,570 volunteers donated 39,806 hours of service
298 tutors provided 17,416 hours of volunteer tutoring
Provided $290,844 in teacher salaries and classroom space valued at over $417,799

19. Mission and Vision
GALA’s mission is to increase awareness, support, and funding for adult literacy needs and efforts in Georgia.
Our vision is a literate Georgia with accessible learning opportunities for all adults.

20. Accomplishments
Since 2010 we have implemented the Legislative Literacy Honor Roll, Letter Writing Campaign and advocacy training workshops.
2011 Legislative Literacy Honor Roll honored 11 individuals from both Congress and state legislature.
2012 Legislative Literacy Honor Roll honored 17 individuals from both Congress and state legislature.

21. Legislative Honor Roll
Adult Literacy providers from across Georgia nominated state Senators and Representatives who had been supportive of literacy efforts in their districts.
10 elected officials, including the Lieutenant Governor, were honored for their commitment to Georgia’s adult learners.

22. Legislative Honor Roll
Adult Literacy providers from across Georgia nominated state Senators and Representatives who had been supportive of literacy efforts in their districts.
17 elected officials, including a congressional representative, were honored for their commitment to Georgia’s adult learners.

27. Accomplishments
2011 Letter Writing Campaign resulted in 4,093 letters - 3,500 written by Adult Education Students.
Since 2010, 9 advocacy training workshops have been presented around the state.
Developed a website -
Developed a social media brochure; joined Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
CLCP and GALA together picked up the sponsorship of the Community Outreach Symposiums (COP) sponsoring 2 symposiums in 2011 (Albany and Thomasville).
