4 Health Skills Health skills: or life skills, are specific tools and strategies that help you maintain, protect, and improve all aspects of your health. Interpersonal Communication Self Management Analyzing Influences Accessing Information Decision Making Goal Setting Advocacy

5 Interpersonal Communication
Is the sharing of thoughts, feelings, and beliefs between two or more people.

6 Effective Communication
Effective Communication: skills for building and maintaining health relationships With the person sitting next to you, please WRITE down 3 important things that matter when you are communicating with one another.

7 THREE Musts when Communicating
Clearly say what you mean! Pay attention to how you say something Be a good listener

8 Refusal Skills Are communication strategies that can help you say no when you are urged to take part in behaviors that are unsafe or unhealthy or against your values.

9 Conflict Resolution Is the process of ending a conflict by cooperation and problem solving

10 Self Management Is taking responsibility for your health and act right. EXAMPLE: Stress management- or ways to deal with or overcome the negative effects of stress.

11 Analyzing Influences Factors that impact your health!
Internal influence: include your knowledge, values, likes, dislikes, and desires. External Influences: come from outside sources, include family, friends, peers, culture, environment, media.

12 Accessing Information
Is learning how to find resources from home, school, and community to help you make healthful choices.

13 Advocacy Is taking action to help others make smart health choices.

14 Decision Making Skills
Are steps that enable you to make a healthful decision.

15 Goal Setting Goal: is something you aim for that takes planning and work.

16 Character What does it mean to be a person of good character?
Please list SIX traits that a person of good character would have.

17 Activity On the previous slides you have seen SEVEN different skills that will help you make live a healthy life. You are now going to take each skill and describe how you can accomplish these skills in your own life!
