Students should be able to:
Explain the uses of several methods to convey materials handling
Identify miscellaneous and less-common methods of conveying materials

4. Bulk or Mass conveyors
Paddles of various shapes attached to a chain at equal distance and housed in a rectangular or circular housing

7. Belt Conveyors Carry different types of materials
Easy-flowing to sticky
Handle material gently
Variable speeds, capacities and widths
Angle of slope generally <30°for smooth belts
Cleated or grooved belts can handle greater slope

Two main types
Flat
Troughed

Capacity varies with belt speed, width, and uniformity of loading

Can be used on greater slopes (elevating materials to place in pile)
