Focus Stage Description Exploration and Adoption Gathering information on the innovation to determine if it should be used and supported. Build consensus and understanding of what it is and resources needed. Installation Designing the innovation for your setting. Setting up the infrastructure and securing resources for successful implementation (e.g., establish team, identify data systems, train staff, etc). Initial Implementation Innovation is used for the first time with students. Focus is on achieving fidelity with innovation. Work out details before expanding to other contexts. Full Implementation The site has achieved over 80% fidelity with the innovation and is considered a part of the fabric of the site. More focused on achieving the desired outcomes and making adjustments to achieve those. Should we do it? Are we doing it right? Are we getting the outcomes we want?

21 Steps by Implementation Stages
Exploration Identify need for PBIS Obtain support and buy-in Infrastructure Team formed (roles/responsibilities, meeting schedule) Develop expectations, rules, lesson plans (get input from stakeholders) Develop acknowledgement system Develop discipline system Develop data collection method and system Initial Implementation Train staff on PBIS (providing reinforcement, lessons, data, discipline system) Train students on PBIS (expectations, acknowledgement, discipline) Share PBIS with families and/or community Team meets to review fidelity and outcome data Team shares data with whole staff Team and staff use communication feedback loop *Steps aren’t necessarily in a fixed order

22 Decreases in instances of behavior, improved climate
Team-based, secured funding, data use procedures, etc ODRs, attendance data, data from SAS and TFI, climate survey The PBIS Logic and the 4 key elements supports guiding questions as you support the team lead through the stages.
