2. Synthetic Substitution
Step 1: Draw an L chart
Step 2: On the outside, put the value being substituted
Step 3: On the inside, put the coefficients of each variable (similar to a matrix)
Remember: if there is a missing place value, you put a 0 in that spot
Step 4: put the leading coefficient below the L chart
Step 5: Multiply the substituted value by the leading coefficient and put it above the L chart in the next column
Step 6: Add the numbers vertically
Step 7: Repeat the process.
