3 Life of Van Gogh Became an Art Dealer at age 16.
Later attempted to have a career as a Pastor. It wasn’t until around , 10 years before his death, that Van Gogh pursued art as his career. Was very close to his brother Theo and exchanged many letters with him throughout his life.

4 Life of Van Gogh Van Gogh became good friends with another artist named Paul Gauguin while living in France. Van Gogh admired Gauguin, but Gauguin was very arrogant, which frustrated Van Gogh. Gauguin and Van Gogh got in an argument and Gauguin said he was going to leave the city. In a moment of anxiety, Van Gogh, distraught at his friend leaving, cut off his left ear. He lost a lot of blood and was in the hospital for a few days in critical care. Gauguin and Van Gogh never saw each other again.

6 Death of Van Gogh After Gauguin left, Van Gogh moved closer to his brother Theo. He died a year after moving. Van Gogh committed suicide at age 37. It is unclear if it was actually a suicide or if some children who were out target shooting accidently missed the target and shot him; however, he admitted to suicide and the case was closed. Theo’s wife spent the rest of her life trying to get Van Gogh’s works of art the recognition they deserved.

8 Quick Facts It wasn’t until after Van Gogh’s death that his works were praised and that he was seen as an artistic genius. In just a span of 10 years, Van Gogh created around 2000 works of art. Only sold 1 painting during his lifetime.

Has been used many times Don McLean wrote a song called ‘Starry, Starry Night’ as a tribute to Van Gogh. It describes different paintings done by Van Gogh and the trials the artist faced during his life such as never having his artistic talent recognized.
