2 Why is the SAT Important?
It is a comparison of your skills vs. a nation wide sample for College Acceptance and other acceptances It is a factor in academic scholarships It is a factor in acceptance to honors and other programs at your college of choice Some employers after college use it as a factor in evaluating your ability to work for them To determine your eligibility to play NCAA college athletics The scores of students at THS are used to evaluate the overall quality of the school’s teaching and learning. May get you out of future tests ie >1150 waives the Praxis I for those going into teaching But it is only one factor, so keep it in perspective

3 SAT Scores can affect Scholarships
Many Scholarships require a minimum SAT score to even be considered; Scholarships range from $1,000 a year to full tuition and board. For example, the University of Georgia's Foundation Fellow scholarship requires potential recipients to have a minimum score of on the SAT and a 3.75 GPA; Activities, honors, recommendations and a personal interview also factor into the selection equation [source: UGA]. According to a recent study by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), nearly four out of five colleges use standardized test scores as an eligibility criterion for merit aid.

4 University of Connecticut Honors Program
Honors admission is based on a holistic review of every student’s application. Factors include, but are not limited to: SAT/ACT scores Your high school class rank (if available) Your high school grade point average Rigor of your high school academic program Leadership in co-/extra-curricular activities Diversity in ethnicity, geography, interests, and talents Typical first-year Honors students: Averaged a combined SAT score of 1400 (excluding the writing component); 32 on the ACT Graduated in the top 5 percent of their high school classes

The ACT score used for NCAA purposes is a sum of the four sections on the ACT: English, math, reading and science. All SAT and ACT scores must be reported directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center by the testing agency. Test scores that appear on transcripts will no longer be used. When registering for the SAT or ACT, use the Eligibility Center code of 9999 to make sure the score is reported to the Eligibility Center.

7 Some Employers Look at the SAT
While the SAT has been criticized in the past, even by College Board President David Coleman, one significant entity has boosted interest in the score: employers.
