Commonwealth (community of Nations) was created in 1926, it’s an intergovernmental organization.

So the Commonwealth is an organization managed by the United Kingdom.

At the base, it was composed of 4 members: the Kingdom United ,the New Zealand ,the Canada and the Australia

Today, the Commonwealth is composed of 53 States

All members, apart from Mozambique and Rwanda are former colonies of the British Empire. Even today, the Commonwealth is symbolically headed by the ruler of the United Kingdom, although, following the example set by India in 1950, the majority of the Member countries of the Commonwealth have become republics. The originality of the Commonwealth comes from his organization: its members are United by their common interests, but are independent. They are bound by any treaty and can remain neutral when a conflict initiates one or more of them.

In order to federate all these States, in 1930, the Commonwealth Games are created.

These games are comparable to the summer Olympics Games.
For exemple, they are organized every 4 years.
Each edition is organized on a different continent…
But these games count some more sports like lawn bowling (kind of bowls on grass)
Rugby sevens, or netball (sort of basketball).

At its creation in 1930, there were only 400 athletes from 11 different nations, and there were only 9 events! So it wasn’t a big event.

Today, there are nearly 5000 athletes from 71 nations and more than 260 events.
To compare, on Olympic games there is 10,000 athletes, 204 nations and 302 events.

When editing 2014 taking place in Scotland, England finished at the top of the table of the medals for the first time since 1986, with 174 medals including 54 of gold.
The second Australia CLIC has dominated the games without interruption from 1990 to 2010 included. Scotland, ranked fourth knows the best games in its history. CLIC
The 21st the 2018 Commonwealth Games take place at Gold Coast in Australia from 4 to 15 April 2018.

During the game, 1.5 billion people watched at Commonwealth Games. It a little bit less than the half of Olympic Games Audience.
But if we look at the population, we can see that Commonwealth is a three times less populated than the World.
2.3 billions for Commonwealth and 7.4 billions people in the world.
And at the end, we can see that, two thirds of the Commonwealth population watched the games and less than the half watched at Olympics Games.
So it is a enormous success, and still, I didn’t talk about the peak of audience like during opening ceremony where audience part is more than 80% !
So we can say that it is a enormous success, but why is it a success ?

There is also sport with a score like tennis or basketball where everything can change very quickly.
And there is also the general competition of which country will win the games…
So it create a suspense and it is same like a serial where you want to see the end of the season, you want to see the and of the games.
But there is also the beauty of the sport like gymnastics or dive.
Furthermore, there is an important emotion when the team that we like win a event or the games. So people were happy when they watch that.
To finish, we can say that for people, it a opportunity to discover an other country because TV do reports about the country or the town and it permits to people to travel from there home
To conclude, we can said that people watch event like Commonwealth games because it it a good way to distract ourselves and be a goof day.
