Latitude and Longitude
Remember… Lines of LATITUDE are like rungs on a LADDER. They go across. They tell you how far North or South a place is from the equator. Lines of latitude are sometimes called parallels. Why?? Lines of LONGITUDE are long and tall. They go over the poles. They tell you how far East or West a place is from the Prime Meridian. Lines of longitude are sometimes called Meridians (like the Prime Meridian!).

How do you use latitude and longitude?
Latitude and longitude form a grid on the map or globe. When listing the coordinates of a place, you always list the latitude (North or South) first, then the longitude (East or West). For example: 45N 25E or 62S 6W If you are given the coordinates of a place, find the correct line of latitude and the correct line of longitude and find the point where they meet… voila!!

Let’s plot some coordinates on this map….

Now let’s try that in reverse; tell me the correct coordinates for cities A, B, C, and D
