6 Communication Definitions
Communication – the process of sharing information by using symbols to send and receive messages. Interpersonal Communication – Communication between two or more people.

8 The Communication Process
Verbal communication – words Non-verbal communication – gestures, facial expressions, movement, sounds, silence Feedback – indicates the message has been received.

10 In more detail… Encode – the process of turning ideas and feelings into verbal and non-verbal symbols (speaking) Decode- finding the meaning of these verbal and non-verbal symbols (listening and interpreting)

11 Types of Interference Interference – anything that gets in the way of clear communication Physical noise – phone ringing, TV sounds, other people talking Psychological Noise – those mini-mind vacations when one is thinking of other things Semantic Noise – when one stops listening because he/she does not agree with the speaker
