2. Goals for 3rd Grade
Third Grade is a big transitional year for both students and parents. Concepts move at a much faster pace.
Our goal is that students will be active & engaged in their learning, so that students will remain successful learners.

3. Attendance & Punctuality
Punctuality and attendance are important.
Students are dismissed to their classrooms at 7:50. Instruction begins promptly at 8:00. Please ensure that your child is in the classroom.
The tardy bell rings at 8:15.
If your son/daughter is absent, contact the Attendance office. A note is required for each absence as soon as possible.
General Conduct grade drops 1 letter for every 4 tardies in a grading period.

5. Please help us by doing the following at home:
Have a special spot for your child’s school items. (ex. backpack, library books, folders, etc.)
Getting a good night’s sleep.
Eat a healthy breakfast and pack a healthy lunch.
Label all personal items (backpacks, lunch kits, sweaters, pencil pouches).
Reinforce good habits (washing hands correctly, blowing nose, coughing, etc)

6. Other information
Make sure your child follows the school’s dress code policy.
The dress code policy can be found on the klein isd website.
Make sure your child doesn’t bring any toys to school.
All medications need to be checked into the clinic.
If your child has a fever, they need to be free of it for 24 hours without medication before they can come back to school.

7. Visiting Lemm Elementary
All visitors must enter through the front doors and show ID to the front office to receive a visitor badge.
You need to have your driver’s license each time you come to the campus.
Visitor badge must be visible
Only visit the area stated on the badge

8. Volunteers
If you would like to be a volunteer you must do the following:
Visit the Klein ISD website- under parents
You need to complete a volunteer application and a background check. You can do it all online.

We will communicate your child’s behavior through their Wednesday folder.
The behavior book is a way for the teacher to keep track of the students behavior. Behavior expectation is much higher.

11. ELA & Social Studies Curriculum
Assignments are done in class and kept in Interactive Journals.
Journals are kept at school so students can use as a resource.
Reading
Students should be reading daily to build stamina which prepares them for STAAR tests and future grade levels.
So far reading lessons have been a review from 2nd grade.

12. Reading Levels and Fluency
Students will be taking an online MAP Reading test which will assess their current reading levels. This test is administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the year.

This year for homework we are asking your child to read minutes daily.

14. Spelling
Buddy Study
Every week we will be teaching a new spelling rule.
Words will be practiced in the classroom.
A weekly quiz will be given. This is an averaged Language Arts grade.

15. Math Curriculum Math Facts must be automatic
The district curriculum moves at a fast pace
Math Facts must be automatic
Math facts practice sheet will be sent weekly.
For additional practice use Reflex Math for facts practice.
We are expecting students to show all work. It helps them keep track of their computations especially in multi-step problems.

16. Science Curriculum
Lab Safety: if students are not following safety rules, they will be asked to observe rather than participate.
Hands-on labs are incorporated for each unit.
Science Journals- Students keep an interactive Science notebook. We add to this daily and it counts as a grade.

17. Grades Major assessments – 60% Minor assessments – 40%

Failing grades of 69 or below will be re-taught.
Failing major grades of 69 or below will be re- taught and re-tested.
No extra credit will be given.

21. STAAR STAAR= State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness
Test in May
4 hour testing window
In 3rd grade this will assess: math and reading.
Lemm Future Ready Night will be Thursday, October 6th from 7:00 to 8:30.
Topics that will be covered:
How to help students with Reading, Writing, and Math at home.
