Our changing housing needs
7.3 million older households in England: 76% owner occupiers, 18% social sector, 6% private sector 95% older people live in mainstream housing By 2033, a third of households headed by someone over 65 By 2036, 800,000 people over 75 will be living in property unsuitable for their needs

Government’s 3 strand approach:
support to people who want to stay in their home ensuring the right information and advice are available strengthening choice for those who want to move

Support Disabled Facilities Grant: > £1bn over 5 years to fund adaptations in disabled people’s homes. Better Care Fund: £220m for major home adaptations in 2015/16. Funding for “Foundations”: national body for Home Improvement Agencies

Advice FirstStop: advice on housing, care, finance for older people, family, carers. A further £1m funding for has recently been announced to continue and expand the services.

Choice DH’s £315m Care and Support Specialised Housing Fund will fund 3,600 new homes in its first phase National Planning Policy Framework requires local authorities to consider older people’s housing
