2. Our changing housing needs
7.3 million older households in England: 76% owner occupiers, 18% social sector, 6% private sector
95% older people live in mainstream housing
By 2033, a third of households headed by someone over 65
By 2036, 800,000 people over 75 will be living in property unsuitable for their needs

3. Government’s 3 strand approach:
support to people who want to stay in their home
ensuring the right information and advice are available
strengthening choice for those who want to move

4. Support
Disabled Facilities Grant: > £1bn over 5 years to fund adaptations in disabled people’s homes.
Better Care Fund: £220m for major home adaptations in 2015/16.
Funding for “Foundations”: national body for Home Improvement Agencies

5. Advice
FirstStop: advice on housing, care, finance for older people, family, carers.
A further £1m funding for has recently been announced to continue and expand the services.

6. Choice
DH’s £315m Care and Support Specialised Housing Fund will fund 3,600 new homes in its first phase
National Planning Policy Framework requires local authorities to consider older people’s housing
