DataLogger® LED Status Indicators Blue Flashing indicates the Bluetooth® is ready to communicate with the Pocket PC Steady indicates the Bluetooth® has established communication with the Pocket PC Tri-Color Amber will only stay on less than 2 seconds, indicating power-up initialization state Flashing Green indicates normal operation mode Flashing Red indicates data logging mode (active data transfer) Once the batteries are installed and the multifunction switch is pressed 2 led lights will illuminate

Pressure Transducer Connection The Pressure Transducer is connected to the DataLogger® via a cable. The Pressure Transducer taps into the hydraulic system of the fusion machine using the supplied connection fittings and quick disconnect

McElroy DL3-PPC Data Logging Software Program Factory set-up, so its ready to log data Provides a user (MS Windows like) interface and joint reporting storage capability Uses an removable Secure Digital (SD) card for data redundancy on the standard Pocket Pc Uses an Compact Flash (CF) card for data redundancy on the Ruggedized Pocket Pc

Pocket PC Date and Time Settings The date and time must be checked and correctly set to ensure accurate records of fusion joints: A.Turn on the Pocket PC B.Tap Start > Settings C.Tap the System tab D.Tap Clock & Alarms E.Select the appropriate time and/or date field and adjust the values until they are correct F.It is a good habit to periodically check the time and date to ensure they are correctly set (double tap the time display) B. 18 McElroy DL3-PPC Program To initiate the DL3-PPC program: A.Start > Program B.Start > McElroy DL3-PPC C.The McElroy DL3-PPC program starts by displaying the DataLogger® logo screen ABC Return to Index

Use of the DataLogger® to Log a Joint Attach the DataLogger® to the Machine Use the connector kit provided to attach the DataLogger® to the hydraulic system of the machine Power-up the DataLogger® Power-up the Pocket PC (iPAQ or Recon) Use the DataLogger® to measure the heater temperature Aim the DataLogger® at the heater plate, press the black button and move the DataLogger® toward the heater until the 2 red dots merge into one

Preparing the Pocket PC to Log a Joint Tap the Menu button located in the lower left- hand corner of the screen Tap the Log/Status menu item to open the Log/Status dialog box

Preparing the Pocket PC to Log a Joint The Log/Status dialog box Provides status info including PPC battery level, DataLogger ® battery status, pressure transducer and temperature readings and logging status Tap the Connect button to initiate a connection with the DataLogger® before continuing

The Check DataLogger dialog box is displayed Make sure the DataLogger is turned on Tap OK to continue Tap the device that you wish to connect to (MDL3-0001) The PPC will connect with the device selected Preparing the Pocket PC to Log a Joint

Tap in the ID Field to input the Machine ID (serial # will work) Tap in the Model field to select the Machine Model (drop box) Tap Next to continue to the Operator Screen Tap in the Operator ID# field to enter Operator number Tap in the Job# field to enter the Job Number Tap Next to continue to the Pipe Screen Preparing the Pocket PC to Log a Joint

Tap in the appropriate field to select pipe material, size and wall thickness from the drop down boxes Tap in the Interfacial Pressures fields to enter the appropriate pressures Tap the Next button to continue to the Notes (optional) dialog box Preparing the Pocket PC to Log a Joint

Tap the Next button to continue to the Drag Pressure dialog box Tap in the Drag Pressure and enter the drag pressure or tap next to accept the default value of 30 PSI Tap the Next button and a dialog box will display the recommended gauge pressures Preparing the Pocket PC to Log a Joint

Using the DataLogger to Measure and Record Heater Temperature Tap the Next button to continue to the Heater Temperature dialog box To measure heater temperature, hold the top of the DataLogger® about 4 inches for the heater plate, pointing the temp sensor at the heater plate. Press and hold the DataLogger® switch, which turns on the guidance lasers. Adjust until the 2 laser beams converge to a single point. Use the PPC screen to read the temperature

Once the temp is stable, release the DataLogger® multifunction switch to record the temperature. Notice the temp box flashes to indicate recorded temperature Using the DataLogger to Measure and Record Heater Temperature

Using the PPC to Initiate the Data Logging Process Tap the START button on the Pocket PC to initiate the data logging process Note: The is a slight delay (3-5) seconds as the software sets up the procedure. Watch the PPC and wait for the STOP WATCH to begin before closing the carriage on the heater

Using the PPC to STOP the Data Logging Process Follow the prescribed methods to heat, fuse and cool the pipe. Once the pipe fusion processes are complete; Tap the STOP button on the PPC to complete the data logging process. Note: Always stop logging before opening the carriage. Otherwise, an unintended change in pressure will be introduced at the end of the joint report graph

Downloading the Joint Report into the Pocket PC Once you have confirmed the STOP command, a dialog box will appear that shows that Logging stopped Next the program will automatically begin the process of downloading the joint report into the PPC. Note: Do not turn-off the DataLogger® or the Pocket PC until the download is complete.

Reading and Analyzing Data The joint report will be displayed upon the completion of the download. 1a and 1b presents information related to the joint, e.g. date, joint number, operator, etc. 2 presents the front end plot which shows the shift-sequence into the soak cycle. The summary plot shows the entire fusion process from end-to-end. 1a. 2. 1b. Return to Index

Reading and Analyzing Data The Front-end Plots shows the result of a fusion that was made incorrectly. The plot highlights the occurrence of a bad shift sequence. The plot indicates that the pressure dropped off too slowly The Summary Plot shows that the rest of the processes followed were OK. Unfortunately the joint is bad due to the incorrect shift sequence, it will need to be cut out Joint Made Using Improper Procedure

Reading and Analyzing Data The Front-end Plot shows the result of a fusion that was made correctly. The plot indicates that the pressure dropped off Correct The Summary Plot shows that the rest of the processes followed were OK. Joint Made Using Proper Procedure
