1 The Godhead

2 Introduction There is a lot of confusion today about who God is Most of the confusion comes from false teaching about God and His nature The Bible reveals who God is!

3 I. God 1. Creator Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”

4 2. Eternal – without beginning or end Ps. 90:2
“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”

5 3. All powerful 4. All knowing – nothing can be hidden from God

6 Proverbs 5:21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

7 5. He is everywhere at all times
6 He is perfect and does not sin

8 1 Jn. 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

9 7. He is unchanging and will always remain the same
8. He is Spirit, not flesh This is the God we serve!

10 II. God Is One Is. 44:6 “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.”

11 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one
Gal. 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one

12 Mk. 12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

13 If God is one, why do we read about the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in reference to God?
This is where one must begin to understand the Godhead or Trinity

14 Trinity = three – one This is the Biblical idea of three-in-one How can God be three in one?

15 III. The Godhead The Bible that teaches there is one God also teaches that God has different personalities

16 Gen. 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

17 Note “us” and “our” This verse, and others, show that although God is one, He has three distinct personalities

18 Three personalities that are separate in function but one in thought and purpose
They are unified in one complete God!

19 IV. Three Distinct Personalities In The Godhead
God the Father Eph. 4:6 “One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

20 God, the Son Mt. 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”

21 God, the Holy Spirit

22 Acts 5:3-4 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

23 [4] Whiles it remained, was it not thine own
[4] Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

24 These three distinct personalities make up the one Godhead

25 Gen. 1:26 “Let us” And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

26 Gen. 1:2 “Spirit of God” And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

27 Col. 1: “Christ” In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature

28 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

29 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

30 The Godhead It should not be difficult to believe that God’s Son is also called God and that His Spirit is also called God God, Christ, Holy Spirit

31 We have a difficult time understanding the Godhead because we try to understand it from a physical standpoint God is not physical but spiritual He created all that was created

32 Is. 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

33 Conclusion Instead of questioning God who has such great power and magnificence – let’s have the faith to accept God in the way He has taught us through His Word!
