3 During the process of transcription, mRNA makes a copy of a DNA strand
During the process of transcription, mRNA makes a copy of a DNA strand. Similar to the process of replication, DNA must unwind and “unzip”. The process of transcription is also controlled by enzymes, in this case RNA polymerase. RNA polymerase binds to DNA and causes it to “unzip”. RNA polymerase then bids to one strand of DNA and uses it as a template for mRNA nucleotides to match up creating a complementary strand of mRNA. RNA has the nitrogen bases of adenine, cytosine, guanine and uracil. The RNA nitrogen bases follow the base pairing rule of adenine, to DNA’s thymine, cytosine to guanine, and uracil to adenine
