Who is GFWC Anytown? GFWC of Any Town (GFWC-AT) is a community service based women’s club, affiliated with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs General Federation (State Name) State logo

What does GFWC Anytown do?
GFWC-AT’s charitable volunteer activities focus primarily on the Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, Public Issues, and International Outreach.

What do club members do? Club members participate in special projects, programs and activities to support women, families, educators, government officials, artists, naturalists, social service workers, health care and law enforcement professionals, and those who work for the betterment of the community.

What is the Resolution Youth Project?
Goal: To provide seventh and eighth grade students/scouts with the skills needed to engage in the federal and/or state legislative process.

How will it be implemented?
GFWC-AT members will work with the (class/troop) to research a legislative topic chosen by the (students/scouts). A resolution will be written with the (class/troop) urging passage of the selected legislation, which will be sent to legislators.

Students will learn how to:
Identify a concern Research legislative issues Prepare an opinion, debate and vote Find and track current federal and state congressional bills Write a resolution for or against the proposed legislation Send the resolution to the appropriate legislators.

Steps to Completion: Narrow topics to 3 Distribute flyer Research
Participants suggest topics Divide into groups Narrow topics to 3 Research Prepare talking points Write resolution Send to legislators Follow up any responses Debate 3 topics Select one topic by vote

Sample Resolution School Bus Safety
WHEREAS, The vast majority of school-age children rely on buses to transport them to and from school and school related activities; and WHEREAS, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) policy is that every school bus should have a three-point seat belt; therefore RESOLVED, That (name of school class/scout troop) supports measures to improve school bus safety, including better bus driver hiring practices, education, training, and supervision and use of bus monitors where needed; and further RESOLVED, That (name of school class/scout troop) urges initiation and passage of legislation that would require three-point seat belts on buses and stronger guidelines for hiring and monitoring school bus drivers. RESOLVED That a copy of this bill be sent to (state those to receive copies)

What could happen with the Resolution?
A legislator could If the Bill passes the House of Representatives and the Senate, and the President approves it, the Bill becomes law.
