Strengthening the Inward Man
Dealing effectively with temptation and sin is one of the most difficult tasks the Christian has (Jas. 1:12-15). Let us ever be mindful of that as a challenge, and seek to handle temptation and sin, more EFFECTIVELY.

Handling Temptation & Sin
(Strengthening the Inward Man)
4
Repent Ye Therefore, and Be Converted
Conversion is not just salvation from past sins, but salvation from the practice of sin as well (Rom. 6; 2 Cor. 6:14-7:1). We must put away the old man (Rom. 6:6; 1 Cor. 6:6-11; Eph. 4:22; Col. 3:5-8). We must also put on new man (Eph. 4:23-24; Col. 3:10-11).

I Will be Their God… They Shall be My People… Wherefore…
Our relationship with God itself involves a covenant (2 Cor. 6:16, 18). A specific part of that covenant is the decision that we will not do things that are wrong. Job made an agreement with his eyes (Job 31:1); he made the decision that he would not lust.
6
I Will be Their God… They Shall be My People… Wherefore…
A similar statement to Job’s (Ps. 7:3-5). We are to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices (1 Pet. 2:5). Peter begs us to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul (1 Pet. 2:11).
7
Know YOUR Weaknesses One problem is that people do not know what their weaknesses are. Another problem: some do not want to deal with their weaknesses. The one who enjoys lusting, who is covetous, who is quarrelsome… Often seeks to justify certain behavior(s).
8
Avoid Situations that Endanger
One’s sincerity in wishing to avoid sin is demonstrated in the efforts to avoid it (Gen. 39:10; 1 Cor. 6:18).
9
Avoid Situations that Endanger
We need to… Know what our weaknesses are. Face what it does to us when we give in to our weakness. Draw on the necessary will power to deny ourselves what the “old man”, or the flesh, wants. Avoid association with things that maybe do not tempt us, but nevertheless are wrong.

Conclusion This lesson has been instructing & reminding us of how:
Conversion demands that we be determined to put away sin Living holy lives involves a covenant We must know what our weaknesses are We must avoid situations in which we may be tempted
