1. Star Students Calendar Math 12/18-12/22 12/23-1/7 – Winter Break
Literacy
This week we will continue daily practice of our Jolly Phonics sounds and sight words. Please continue to support this at home daily. Our book of the week is “Farm Concert” and the sight words are “me & are”. Moving forward, we will continue to have two new sight words each week. Please have your child practice reading and writing them at home as well.
In Reading Workshop, students will continue working with the reading strategy called “Skippy the Frog”. With this strategy, students will learn to skip over a word they don’t know, read the rest of the sentence and see if that helps them figure it out.
In Writing Workshop, we will continue to work on grammar. Students have been doing a nice job using a 5 Star Writing checklist. 5 Star Writing includes: capital letters at the beginning of sentences, lower case letters for the rest, punctuation, sight words spelled correctly, and spaces between words. They have been working with a buddy to check each other’s work. You can encourage this at home. If your child writes a sentence at home, you can ask them if it’s

Week!
Math
This week in Math, students will finish Module 6 on addition. They will continue to represent addition situations with an equation. They should be able to tell me an addition story. For example, “There were 2 frogs in the lake and 1 more came. Now there are 3.” We will also continue to work on building fact fluency within 5. This is an end of Kindergarten goal, and we will be working on it for the remainder of the year.
