The great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself- nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.” -FDR, First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1933

FDR’s New Deal FDR’s plan to fix the nation’s problems during the Great Depression was known as the New Deal Plan was to focus on relief, recovery, and reform

First 100 days His plan involved much government spending to create jobs to improve the economy Passed a total of 15 bills Deficit Spending- Spending more money than the government is bringing in

FDIC and SEC Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)- insured bank deposits up to $5,000 Intended to prevent banks from failing Securities and Exchange Commission- regulate stock market to make investments safer

CCC and AAA Civilian Conservation Corps- created over 2 million jobs to help replant forests, fight fires, and dig ditches Agricultural Adjustment Act- Helped raise farm prices to support farmers

TVA and PWA Tennessee Valley Authority and Public Works Administration
Created to generate electric power by building dams, bridges, and power plants Created jobs

NRA National Recovery Administration- increase wages for workers to help the economy FDR called it the “most important and far-reaching legislation ever enacted by the American Congress”
