Correction Techniques
Who should correct mistakes? self correction peer (partner) correction teacher correction Principles Correct in a positive way. Remember learning a language is difficult and we need to support each other. Bonus - Enhance your listening skills by following what is said. Remember IF you are making the same mistake over and over you need to say the whole sentence, maybe write it down and review the grammar.. Don’t over-do correction (fluency verse accuracy) Slow down and listen to yourself and others Make sure your partner and you understand that correcting each other isn’t confrontational but helpful.

Peer Correction What have you done for your last Christmas?
What did you do at this time last week? What did you do last Christmas? What were... Gesture – raise your eyebrow / look puzzled / use your hands. Ask for Repetition – say again ? Huh ? Please repeat that ? What do you mean? Echo – say back (correctly) “did you say / mean .. ” Echo question. “I’m annoying” … “You’re annoying?”

Fulfilled and unfulfilled expectations and intentions.
Intention = is something that we want and plan to do. Expectation = as a strong belief that something will happen or be the case; or a belief that someone will or should achieve something What did you do last weekend? I intended on getting the written exam finished, as Joe expects me to show him today. But he’s going to be disappointed!

Can be used to talk about unfulfilled expectations – what someone intended or expected didn’t or won’t happen.

Part B. Phrasal verbs (2 words)
Get through – I got through the exam period without cracking up! Get over – I will have to get over her someday. It was a hard breakup. Got postponed – The match got postponed. Get wasted – I got wasted last night! Get Along - I get along with nobody! Get on / up – Get on the train / We get on / Get up, out of bed. Get together – We get together to get high(drug/alcohol) Get across – I got across my point of view and they understood. Get back – I got back at him by trash talking him on facebook! / I have to get back my book / pride. Get it – Get it! / I understand, I get it! / Get it now! Phrasal prepositional verbs (3 words) Get away from – I have to get away from him – he’s a bad influence Get around to – I have to get around to cleaning my room. Get away with – Girls get away with murder when they act cute. Get into trouble - Get something back – Get the feeling – I get the feeling you are annoyed with me. Get used to – I have to get used to my new hair cut.

Part B. Verb + particle + object E.g. He’ll never get over the disappointment. If the object is a verb use a gerund (verb + ing)E.g. He’ll never get over being a disappointment. Verb + particle + preposition + object E.g. Can you get out of the meeting? If the object is a verb, use a gerund (verb + ing) E.g. Can you get out of going to the meeting?

Wrap up Have a conversation with your partner using (was/were) (+/) supposed to (/) going to Vocab suggestions: Get away from, get out of, got into trouble, got postponed, got wasted, got a lot to do, get out, get through, got involved Your friend asks you out but … You meet someone you don’t really want to hang out with. You forgot to call your friend. Make an excuse. Your Mum tells you what you’re supposed to be doing!
