Birth name was Jean Cauvin Born in 1509 in Noyon, France Went to the University of Paris to train as a lawyer Somewhat of a Humanist May have been trained as an ordained priest

Had a spiritual conversion at age 24 Read the works of Luther and had insight about the true meaning of Christianity Wrote many books

Wrote Institutes of Christian Religion Written in Latin Universal language of Europe so more people could read it Important because: Appealed to human reason Was logical Not aimed at a specific region
