5 Why do we need time zones?
We have to keep the rotation of Earth in relation to the sun constant

6 Topographic (Contour) Maps
Show changes in the Earth’s elevation by using contour lines

7 How to read a contour map
The closer the lines are together, the more the slope is changing, and the steeper the slope.

8 How to read a contour map
The farther the lines are apart, the less the slope is changing, and the more gradual the slope.

9 Take a closer look If there is a river… lines point upstream
river flows against arrows

10 How can you tell the elevation?
The lines increase in a pattern. Ex. 10’s, 20’s, 100’s
