Unit Objectives 1. Students will identify and understand the use of basic tools used in the floral industry. 2. Students will use floral ribbon and construct bows. 3. Students will wire and tape floral materials.

Floral Tools Tools used by floral designers to create floral arrangements. Tools range in price. Usually the higher the cost the better the tool. In your notebook – glue in the pictures of floral tools. Also write the name of each tool.

Floral Tape A wax coated paper which adheres to itself.
Used to wrap arrangement pieces together and to provide a natural plant look. Comes in two sizes ½ inch and 1 inch. Floral tape is not sticky to touch. It sticks when stretched. Holds moisture in the plant material being taped

Floral Foam or Oasis An open-celled phenolic foam that readily absorbs water and is used as a foundation for flower arrangements. Holds over 40 times its weight in water.

Wire Sizes and Uses Sizes of wire range from #18 to #30.
#18 is largest diameter #30 is smallest. Larger sizes such as #18, #20 and #22 are used to add support to flower stems. Smaller gauge wires #24 - #30, are used for corsage and wedding bouquets.
