5. Religious Persecution
King disapproved of the Puritans and their idea
Persecution existed because Puritans wanted a new society based on biblical laws and teachings

6. Colonial establishment
Pilgrims first settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts
Colonists began to spread out from Massachusetts
Thomas Hooker founded the colony at Connecticut
He left MA because he though it had too much power
Established the Fund Orders of Connecticut. (males, property, voting rights)
Roger Williams founded Rhode Island
Felt Puritan church had too much power
Colony believed in separation of church and state

7. Native American and Colonial Relations
As New England grew the colonial population encroached on Native American lands
Started to see the beginning of stressors in relationships

9. Economy of the new England colonies
Which industries contributed to the economic growth of the New England colonies?

11. Fishing The colonists caught more fish because of oceans nearby.
They had a surplus so they sold it to people in Europe and other English colonists in West Indies. (early stages of exporting of goods)

12. Whaling
They hunted, caught and killed whales. They cut and boiled the whale’s blubber to obtain oil. The oil was used to get light. It gave more light and less smoke.
After whales started declining, they started going on bigger ships on longer voyages to look for whales.

13. Trading
Ships carried goods to and from ports in southern Europe and England.
English government made the colonists follow a route from new England ports to England and also told them to buy English goods only.
New England exported lumber, fur and dried fish and got tea, spices, cloth, shoes and buttons.
Triangular route- They had to cross Africa on the way so they bought slaves from Africa. Slaves suffered a lot and many died on these ships.

14. Shipbuilding
They used raw materials in forests to build ships, they used logs to build naval stores. The naval stores are used to build and repair ships.
By 1700s- Almost one-third of ships built were from New England colonies because of their low cost.
The ship building industry helped New England towns turn into cities.

With your table group you will pick one industry or group of pilgrims from the last two days
Please create a story board with at least 4 pictures and captions.
You will have 20 minutes for this activity.
You may use technology to assist in the creation of the final product.
