Ionic Bonds Covalent Bonds
High melting points Usually solids at room temperature Good conductors when dissolved in water Dissolve in water and other polar compounds Low melting points Gas or liquids at room temperature Poor conductors Polar covalent compounds dissolve in water and other polar compounds. Nonpolar covalent compounds do not dissolve in water and other polar compounds

Polyatomic Ions More than one atom bonded by covalent bonds but still have an overall charge. Form ionic bonds with an ion of opposite charge.
